Ghana Ministries began in 2016 through Cheryl Bunch and her journey to adopt six siblings from Ghana. What started as a desire to provide these children with a loving home ultimately took an unexpected turn when the adoption process did not work out as hoped.
Rather than bringing six children from Ghana into a new home, God opened the door to something much bigger—a ministry that could serve children and families right where they were.Through relationships formed in Ghana, Ghana Ministries had the opportunity to walk alongside Dr. Elijah Asamoah and Volunteer Ministries Ghana and become part of a shared vision for caring for orphans and children in need. That partnership eventually led to the development of New Light Children’s Home, which officially opened its doors in 2023.
Today, New Light is a place where children are loved and cared for, receive an education, grow in their faith, and are intentionally prepared for life beyond the children’s home. Year after year, we have watched God continue to provide, open doors, and grow a ministry that began very differently than anyone originally planned.
We are incredibly grateful to walk alongside Dr. Elijah, Volunteer Ministries Ghana, and the people who serve these children every day. Most of all, we are grateful that when our plans changed, God’s purpose continued.
Our faith shapes not only why we serve, but how we serve. These principles guide our decisions, our partnerships, and the way we care for the children and communities entrusted to us.
Our ministry begins and ends with Christ. We seek to honor Him in our decisions, relationships, leadership, and service. Meeting physical needs matters, but our greatest desire is for every child to know Christ personally and develop a faith that will guide them throughout their lives.
We believe children deserve more than having their basic needs met. They deserve to be loved, protected, encouraged, educated, discipled, and given the opportunity to discover who God created them to become.
We are committed to caring for the whole child—spiritually, physically, emotionally, and educationally.
Our goal is not simply to care for children while they are at New Light. We want to prepare them for the day they leave.
Through faith, education, mentorship, life skills, and opportunity, we seek to equip young men and women to become independent adults who build strong families, lead with purpose, and positively impact their communities.

We believe the strongest impact comes when we listen, work together, respect local leadership, and combine our resources and strengths around a shared mission.

Together, we support the continued growth and ministry of New Light Children’s Home, where children in need are provided with care, education, discipleship, healthcare, and opportunities for a better future.
Each organization has a distinct role, but we share a common purpose: to care for children, share the love of Christ, and help prepare the next generation for a life of faith, purpose, and opportunity.
